Workshops and Teaching
This page shows some of the work that I do with students, young people and families. I have run workshops and courses for institutions including Whitechapel Gallery, Tate, University of the Arts London and ACAVA.
Workshops for ‘Summer Study Abroad’ short course at UAL, 2022
Over three weeks, I ran various workshops and projects to introduce the students to designing for the body.
Workshop at Zabludowicz Collection ‘Soft Girls’, 2021:
Familes made sculptures and costumes inspired by my solo exhbition at the gallery.
Workshop for CLASP at Central Saint Martins ‘The Forgotten Folk’, 2018:
I planned and ran a workshop for local college students (16 - 18) as an introduction to theatre design. They designed and built character costumes based on folk stories and ‘exquisite corpse’ drawings.
Workshop for the Whitechapel Gallery Family Day, 2019:
I devised and ran a workshop for Whitechapel Gallery’s ‘Family Day’. We built sculptural costumes from an eclectic collection of objects from my studio. These were photographed with polaroid cameras for families to take home.
International Summer School, Camberwell College of Art, 2019:
I planned and ran two day workshops for groups of up to 50 students (age 16). It was an introduction to Theatre and Performance. Students devised performances and props based on life drawing with found objects and staged photographs of scale figures.
Workshop for ACAVA’s ‘Flourish’ programme, ‘Anarchy with Domestic Objects’ 2018:
I worked with charity ‘Acava’ to devise and deliver a workshop for families affected by the Grenfell fire. It involved creating collages and monster costumes with domestic items.
The Cone and The Strip, Workshops at Tate Modern and Britain, 2019:
Over the Easter holidays I ran a series of workshops in the galleries of Tate modern and Britain to help families engage with the exhibited work in physical and inventive ways with limited resources.
Workshop for Royal College of Art’s ‘Reach Out RCA’, ‘Impractical Art Tools’, 2016:
I devised and delivered a workshop for a group of sixth form college students. We explored our relationship to domestic tools and appliances through writing, building sculptures and developing five-minute performances.
Tate, 2018:
‘Under 5s Explore the Gallery’ project at Tate Britain.
Playing Up, Curated by the Early Years and Family Department at Tate, 2016-19:
For three years I have been running the Playing Up project at Tate in collaboration with Sybille Peters and the Live Art Development Agency. These are drop-in workshops were families perform tasks based on famous Live Art works. Here they are making Guerrilla Girl style protests about the environment.
